O’Connor, who won gold at the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games and went undefeated as a pro, had captured hearts both in and outside the ring.
The gifted athlete passed away following a battle with cancer.
A proud Durham native and former Team GB standout, her death has sent shockwaves through the boxing world, as tributes have started flooding social media platforms.
From Ring Glory to Health Crisis
O’Connor’s athletic rise was rapid — after winning Commonwealth Youth gold, she competed internationally for England and Team GB. She turned professional in 2021, quickly amassing a 3-0 record under the BOXXER promotion.
But in January, she revealed a devastating health turn: she had been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, a chronic inflammatory bowel disease. By October 2024, she had been diagnosed with cancer.
Despite her illness, she continued to share updates with her followers, showing the same strength that defined her in the ring.
“Fighter Till the End”
Tributes have poured in for the beloved fighter. Super-middleweight Joe Laws shared a photo of them together, writing: “Fighter till the end rest easy bro.”

BOXXER, the promotion she signed with, said in a statement: “We are heartbroken by the passing of Georgia O’Connor. A true warrior inside and outside the ring, the boxing community has lost a talented, courageous and determined young woman far too soon.
“Georgia was loved, respected and admired by her friends here at BOXXER. Our thoughts are with her loved ones at this difficult time.”
England Boxing also paid tribute, calling her “a gifted boxer and beloved member of the amateur boxing community,” adding she “won medals at the Commonwealth Youth Games, Youth Worlds and European Championships.”

Married Before Goodbye
Just two weeks before her death, O’Connor shared her final Instagram post — a photo of her wedding ring with the caption: “The day I married the love of my life.”
She had married her partner Adriano, taking his surname, Cardinali.
In February, she posted a deeply emotional tribute to him: “If you have a man who loves you more than anything, who would burn the whole world down before he’d let it take you, hold onto him, because that kind of love is rare.”
“From the moment I was diagnosed with cancer, Adriano didn’t hesitate. He quit his job without a second thought and made it his mission to fight this battle alongside me.”
“Researching day and night, chasing down every option, making sure I have every single chance to beat this. I have never known love like this. A love that doesn’t flinch, doesn’t break, doesn’t even hesitate.”
“I have no words strong enough to explain what you mean to me… You are my safe place. My home. I could search the world a thousand times over and never find another man like you.”
Our thoughts go out to O’Connor’s family and loved ones at this time.
